Attuned with Beijing’s summer heat, Arrow Factory is pleased to present “20140706,” a new video installation work by Shanghai-based artist Liang Yue. Using her trademark lyrical style, Liang’s video positions the surrounding neighborhood as a backdrop and captures ambling scenes of daily life as it unfolds in this corner of the city during this specific time of the year. The work chronicles the languorous rhythm of summer at a pace that marks the subtle passage of time. Her stationary camera focuses on quiet moments, seeking inspiration in the seemingly insignificant: park dwellers, cars in an intersection, and wandering tourists. A household fan rotating methodically left to right accompanies the video and serves as an improvised metronome. The work is designed for optimal viewing between midnight and 2am for summer insomniacs.
